Who We Are

Mission Statement

The mission of the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association is to provide an opportunity for New Mexico civil defense lawyers to communicate, associate, and combine efforts on projects of common interest.

  • NMDLA is dedicated to continuing legal education, helping members improve their skills and knowledge through seminars and publications throughout the year.
  • NMDLA attempts to assist the courts to create reasonable and understandable standards for emerging areas of the law, so as to make New Mexico case law dependable, reliable, and a positive influence in promoting the growth of business and economy in our state.
  • NMDLA encourages networking through email, website, and member lunches to provide a forum for comment on issues of common concern among its members. Additionally, NMDLA gives members an opportunity to share results in defense cases, and offers a clearinghouse for practical and technical information.

Continuing Legal Education 

Members receive significant savings on exceptional CLE opportunities, including NMDLA seminars and the purchase of self-study DVDs, available on our website. 

Email Network and LinkedIn Group

Members use NMDLA's email network to obtain information on judges, lawyers, and experts and share rulings and verdicts of interest; the LinkedIn group provides a venue to discuss the latest developments in the law and other matters affecting the practice of civil defense in New Mexico; additionally our social media presence provides up to the minute news on members, events of interest and member verdicts. 

Defense News

Members receive Defense News - the Legal Journal for New Mexico Civil Defense Lawyers - published quarterly by NMDLA.  Members may serve on the Editorial Board and contribute articles and news.  

Member Networking

Member lunches provide an opportunity to socialize with peers, share ideas, and listen to speakers discuss a wide range of civil defense issues.  The NMDLA facilitates small, informal discussion groups that allow members to explore current topics of interest with their colleagues.  The Young Lawyers Committee encourages personal and professional development by engaging new members in social and networking opportunities among peers and more seasoned members.

Amicus Brief Program

NMDLA writes and submits Amicus Briefs on issues of exceptional interest to the civil defense bar.  Briefs and their case outcomes are maintained on the NMDLA website.

NMDLA Website

The website - - is an important source of information for NMDLA members; a portal to register for NMDLA activities and CLE seminars, renew memberships, and find archives of Defense News issues, a compilation of verdicts and other accomplishments from members, summaries of state court cases, and amicus briefs filed.  By logging into the members-only-portal, members can update their contact information and access a current online member directory.
